France offers several work visa options. The most common for Algerians are: the regular Work Visa (Salarié) if you have a job offer from a French employer, and the Passeport Talent for highly skilled workers, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Your employer in France usually initiates the process through the DIRECCTE labor office.
Fees: €99 visa fee + €269 OFII tax upon arrival
Processing time: 2-3 months (employer authorization + visa processing)
Visa center in Algeria: VFS Global — Algiers, Oran, Constantine, Annaba
The first and hardest step: you need a French employer who wants to hire you AND is willing to go through the work authorization process. The employer must prove they couldn't find a suitable candidate within France/EU for the position.
Estimated duration: Weeks to months (job search)
Tip: Target sectors with labor shortages in France: IT/tech, healthcare, engineering, construction. These sectors are more likely to hire internationally. Use LinkedIn, Welcome to the Jungle, and APEC to find opportunities.
Your French employer files the work authorization request with the DIRECCTE (labor authority). Once approved (4-8 weeks), you can apply for your work visa at VFS Global in Algeria with the authorization document.
Estimated duration: 4-8 weeks for authorization + 2-4 weeks for visa
